Principal's Message

A Letter from the Principal
To all of the members of The Olympia Learning Center Family:

Welcome to the Olympia Learning Center “Where Opportunities Lead To Change”. It is with the highest level of enthusiasm that I bring this message to all of our students, parents, community of business partners, staff and faculty.

This is your time, our time together to pool all of our community resources to work with the diverse needs of our children in school. All of us at Olympia truly believe that not one of us is smarter than all of us together to meet the individual challenges of the children who come to us. This is very evident in the many achievements and accolades the Olympia Program has received over the past three years of its short existence. For example: We have celebrated the completion of our first strategic [2005 – 2009] plan that produced positive reading, writing, and math outcomes for students sixth through eighth grade by at least two grade levels. Many of our high school students who attended Olympia as first time attendees passed at least one part of the HSAP test on their first try. Better than one third of the high school students passed all parts of the HSAP on their first attempt. Our school health [nurse] department has won several grant awards and was named as one of the most effective health conscience programs in the state by The Department of Health and Environmental Control for two consecutive years and most recently won the South Carolina Association of School Nurses Award for our contributions to the health of all students at Olympia Learning Center. We have been recognized by the State Department of Education as the 2008 Education Champion and given the Educational Governor’s Award for implementing instructional technology as an example of using effective teaching strategies in the classroom as a part of the Education and Economic Development Act and career and technology. In 2007, Olympia introduced our district to the STAR Academy Accelerated Middle School Program. In 2008, the Olympia STAR Academy was a top finalist for the prestigious Crystal Award by the National Drop Out Center. Our STAR Program has received numerous accolades and awards for reducing the drop-out rate for over-age middle school students. These are but a few of many highlights of the Olympia Learning Center.
